Brachytherapy is a major component in the treatment of cervical cancer and other female gynaecological cancers in Africa. We offer High- Dose –Rate (HDR) intracavitary brachytherapy treatment with a multi- source HDR after loader and 3-D treatment planning.

Our brachytherapy suite is fitted with a comfortable stirrup bed for patient’s relaxation. The procedure is performed by well qualified oncologists with several years of experience in brachytherapy insertions. Oncology nurses provide the necessary counselling and support needed throughout the procedure.

We also offer Low –Dose- Rate (LDR) interstitial brachytherapy with Iodine 125 sources for prostate cancer. Our highly professional brachytherapy team of radiation oncologists, urologists, anaesthetists, medical physicists and nurses work efficiently together to ensure patient safety, comfort and improved outcome.

The National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre is a Clinical Department of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and a Centre of Excellence.

Our main pre-occupation is to manage solid tumours and some benign tumours with ionizing radiation, chemotherapy and radio nuclides. The centre was established in 1997.

Our workforce consists of seasoned Oncologists, Medical Physicists, Oncology Nurses, Nuclear Medicine Physicians, Radiation Therapy Technologists, Biomedical engineers, Clinical Psychologist, Bio Statisticians, Health Informaticists and other administrative staff.

Approximately 1500 patients from various parts of the country and the sub-region are seen yearly.

The National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre provide comprehensive cancer care supported by advanced technology, innovative techniques and evidence-based medicine.

We also undertake researches and affiliated to the University of Ghana, Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives, Ghana College of Pharmacy and School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences.

The National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre has a well-coordinated and highly structured chemotherapy administration system. The Centre has an on-site pharmacy that stocks chemotherapeutic agents procured from accredited pharmaceutical companies that have been certified by Ghana Food and Drugs Authority (FDA).

Our Pharmacy is managed by well-trained pharmacists who follow specific safety procedures in the preparation and administration of chemotherapy. The use of a laminar flow in drug preparation ensures strict adherence to infection and occupational safety protocol.

We understand the difficult patient experience of cancer diagnosis and treatment, and therefore provide a warm ambience for short stay in our chemotherapy suites.
